l. So it is not just thedetail that mars it. In fact the detail helps,—for in the rear, there are no emotionalfeelings at all, while the front facade doesaffect one. Another thing I feel is missinghere is the fact that a home should fit intoits surroundings. But this one does not.There is no settling into the landscape here.It was erected to stand out and it does.. And so I suppose while we must con-clude that this mansion is not architecturein the best sense of the word, it does havea certain air of dignity and pride, and it isinteresting. If we laugh at it—let us re-member that at some time in the future agreat deal of what we build today will belaughed at, and furthermore perhaps atsome later date many of our modern build-ings will not have the lasting charm thatthis JiQSaw of the Eighties has.
