The Big Picture, opening of the Parliament of Australia, 9 May 1901, by Tom Roberts

The Parliament of Australia, also known as the Commonwealth Parliament or Federal Parliament, is the legislative branch of the government of Australia. It is bicameral, and combines the fused executive of the Westminster System with the federalist senate of the United States Congress. Under Section 1 of the Constitution of Australia, Parliament consists of three components: the Queen, represented within Australia by the Governor-General, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. The Australian Parliament is the world's sixth oldest continuous democracy.
