Virgin Trains (legal name West Coast Trains Limited, company no 3007940) is a train operating company in the United Kingdom owned by Virgin Group (51%) and Stagecoach (49%) that has operated the InterCity West Coast franchise since March 1997. Virgin Trains operate long-distance passenger services on the West Coast Main Line between London, the West Midlands, North West England, North Wales and Scotland. Virgin Trains' InterCity West Coast franchise is due to expire on 8 December 2012. However with Virgin Group seeking a judicial review, it is unknown if the franchise will pass to First West Coast as originally announced by the Department for Transport on 9 December 2012. If a judicial review is granted, the Department for Transport plans to have Directly Operated Railways run the franchise.
